 Thursday Young Americans for Liberty had guest speaker Jacob Hornberger President of the Future for Freedom Foundation spoke this past Thursady the 11th. He said our military should be like the Switzerland   in which male 20-30 is given a rifle and they know where to report if a war breaks out and their country is attacked. He said that they know exactly what bridges to blow up etc. He also said that once the male is over 30 they get to keep their guns. Hornberger was pushing for America to bring home all the troops, not have an military bases over seas and not worry about other countries invading us on US soil.

SRU Earth Day

Slippery Rock University hosts Earth Days Starting April 6, 2013 at Weisenfluh dining hall. The University is divided up into 20 different zones. Breakfast was provided free of charge starting at 9:45 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. where guest speaker President Cheryl J. Norton addressed 150 plus participants and staff. It was Campus and Community Clean Up day. Several other events will happen throughout the week. April 8, 2013, "Joy of Sox" where individuals can donate a pair of new socks. Collection boxes will be throughout all the dorms on campus, the CSIL office and the Smith student center. April 15, 2013 at 7 p.m., Global Wealth Environmental Film Festival, Vanishing the Bees. Guest speaker Charles Vorisek who is the President of the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association. This will take place in ATSH auditorium. April 16, 2013 from noon to 2 p.m., One day without shoes awareness walk outside the Smith student center. Students walked around campus for two hours until 1 p.m. gathering trash.



Josh Cutter a freshman majoring in Safety Management wins a pair of beads early Saturday morning. Students had to spin a wheel and then answer questions about recycling in order to win a pair of sunglasses, green or white beads or a rock. Sample question How many plastic bottles are generally recycled?
A. 27% B. 5% C. All of them or D. Close to 50% If you guessed A then your are correct. Even if students got the question wrong they still could take home a pair of beads.


Sophomore undeclared major Andrew Fellhauer enjoys breakfast before going out to help clean up. Sausage, scrambled eggs and tater tots where among the choices. Water, tea and coffee where served for drinks.


Senior math major Grace Evans registers a student before assigning a zone. Students could chose the same zone as their friends or be randomly assigned. Grace was assigned to Zone 16 along with Alpha Sigma Phi. She was also a leader and each zone was assigned two leaders.


Junior Safety Management major Morgan Valvano talks about why she helped out. This was her first year and she plans on doing it again her Senior year at Slippery Rock University. Parking in front of Weisinfluh was filled to capacity. Valvano was in charge of directing students and community members into the dining hall.



Students wait in line for breakfast before listening to guest speaker. Star of the television show Dual Survivor Cody Lundin will be a guest speaker on April 23, 2013. Breakfast was self-serve for the students. Students could not eat until they were registered. Sororities and Fraternities were able to reserve a zone for the whole group but a leader would still be assigned to different zones.



Students were given water bottles to keep hydrated while cleaning up the campus. Temperatures were in the high forties. Some students filled their water bottles up with Gatorade.
